Fall Storm Season New Philadelphia, OH
11/23/2020 (Permalink)
When we think of thunderstorms; we generally think severe weather comes in the Spring and Summer. However, fall is not to be counted out.
AccuWeather reports, “The second severe peak happens in the fall because you see the jet stream start to shift southward in response to the Northern Hemisphere cooling off.”
Fall storms, in Ohio, can be just as powerful too. We can see tornado warnings, high winds, and major downpours that can cause flooding.
While the most common areas for severe weather in the fall generally span from Texas to Georgia, some storms occasionally impact areas farther north, including right here in New Philadelphia.
Cincinnati.com stated that in a typical year, Ohio sees 13 tornadoes. Summer and Spring tend to see the highest number of twisters, but roughly one in five occurs in fall or winter.
